Si on s'attarde un peu plus sur les paroles des couplets, mis à part le fait qu'on frise le grand n'importe quoi, bein… ils ne mettent ni les pieds au Mexique ni même à la ville de México… Ils aperçoivent juste le Golfe du Mexique au delta du Mississippi à la fin de leur voyage très mouvementé parti du Proche-Orient… Bref, une inspiration tout droit sorti de la littérature coloniale, des récits de missions de Walter Raleigh ou toutes celles proto-Mayflower, des batailles entre explorateurs anglais et l'Invincible armada, des histoires de pirates et de prostituées… Mais alors pourquoi le titre s'appelle "Mexico"? Grand mystère…
